This month I used new artistic behaviors. I took risks by creating a black and white painting with a vibrant pineapple painting. I created original art by using larger brush strokes. To get the colors that I desired I had to mix multiple colors. I added whites for highlights and darker colors for dimension. This month I also began a painting that I did not have time to finish. It was supposed to be squidward from an episode of Spongebob. I was going to outline the figure in black and then add figures from spongebob like jellyfish. When tracing the pineapple I had to solve problems. It was difficult top porportion the body of the pineapple to the stem but with help from Mrs. Haggerty and peers I was able to resolve this problem.

This month I have been working on an Alice In Wonderland painting, I found different characters from the movie, and painted them in my own style. I painted the background a lightish purple, then I sketched the characters over the paint with pencil, so that I could just paint it in. First, I painted the mushrooms. I mixed many colors together for the stem to make it look realistic. I used brown, white, and black, and layered the paints. This helped me to develop skill because I created dimension by layering different colors. Next, I painted Alice's hair. I mixed yellow and white to create a golden blonde color. Then I took a risk by using darker colors to outline the shape of the hair to give dimension, and make it look more realistic. Next I developed skill by mixing colors like red, brown, yellow , and a lot of white to make the skin tone that looked the most realistic on Alice. Then I added more broen to my skin colored paint, to make the eyebrows, and outline the jawline and face.I am not done with this painting because I still have to complete the features on her face, finish the cats mouth, and finish painting the caterpillar.

This past month in art, I've worked one two pieces. The first piece of art that I made was a watercolor of the Bourne Bridge. I developed skills because I haven't really used watercolor much this year. I put the water down first, then the light blue watercolor as a base, for the sky. Then I layered a darker blue for the ocean, to create seperation. Then I mixed red, brown, and green to create the tree background. Next I took a risk on the bridge because I used a sharpie to draw the bridge. At the end I was really happy that I used the sharpie rather than watercolor. It made the lines sharp, and really added a nice touch to my painting. Next I mounted the painting and gave it to my grandparents as a gift because they love Cape Cod. The next piece that I started was a landscape. I decided to paint this with acrylic paint on a canvas. To begin, I mixed white and a tiny bit of blue. Next, I mixed a little more blue to create the mountains. Next I got a paintbrush and messily applied the belack paint to create the look of trees. I added other detail to make it look more realistic. |
This month I have created many original pieces! Some of the pieces that I created was my blind contours, a person acrylic painting, still life, and a charcoal self portrait. For the blind contours I challenged myself to draw sketches of other people, without looking down at my paper. This helped to develop my skill as an artist. Next I painted an alien, with a spaceship. I like drawing aliens because they are vibrant, and you can basically go in any direction with it. I was taking a risk by using many different colors, and trying to make them look good together. For a homework assignment we had to draw 6 still lifes. I decided to draw a banana. I drew many different variations like the banana peeled, it cut, a bunch of bananas and so on. Lastly was my charcoal self portrait. This was a difficult project for me because I am not familiar with charcoal, and I don't like doing self-portraits. I had to reflect a lot, and communicate with others. But Overall I like this project at the end because my self portrait came out better than I expected and I developed skills.
This month we created original art. I tried new ideas and loved how they turned out. The first project that we did was the hive. This project included 7 small images in a shape of a hexagon, that represented you. I communicated through my artwork by including images that represented myself best. The first image I drew was a music note, this shows my love for music. Then I also drew a yin-yang sign, Chipotle, my beach house, a starfish, ice cream with cone, and a sun. I used color pencils for all of my drawing. Unoccupied space was the next project we did. At first I was hesitant about this project, but once I began, I really liked it. I drew many shapes to break up my negative space well. Then I outlined my lines with a ruler with thick and thin line consistencies. This gave my image some dimension, to create an illusion. Then I mixed basic colors with white so that my colors could be pastel. I filled in all of the spaces with a variety of many pastels. I developed art making skills by using pastel colors, and now knowing how to make them for other projects.
For my artwork this March I did a watercolor and a pencil drawing. I decided to do a watercolor jellyfish. I wanted to develop new skills and experiment with something that I've never used before, so I used liquid watercolor. I really liked that the colors were vibrant and different then the traditional watercolors that I usually use. In the future I would like to work on more complex watercolor pieces and take chances. I also tried to splatter paint to add more to my piece because it felt kind of plain to me at first. I also worked on a pencil piece of an eye. I really enjoy drawing eyes because eyes are very unique and they interest me. I collaborated with others around me to get feedback so that I could make my drawing better. If I could change something about this, I would have made the shape of the eye smaller and shade more.
During the month of February I’ve been working on two pieces. For both of my pieces I used acrylic paint and I painted on canvas. After we watched the Vincent Van Gogh movie, it inspired me to create original art using his style of art. I decided to paint a flower, using many small strokes of different paint colors. I also overlapped the colors to give my painting dimension. To complete this painting I mixed many colors together to make original, different colors. At first the colors that I was using were very dull and flowers are supposed to be bright so I problem solved and added white to the colors to make more of a pastel color. My next painting was very unique. I made an unrealistic painting of an alien, with many colors. It was difficult to paint this because the whole alien was outlined in a thin line of black paint, and I couldn't find a small enough paintbrush so it didn't come out exactly how I wanted. Also for the background i wanted the paint to look tie-dye. I problem solved and added water to the colors to make them flow better on the canvas . |
In the past month of art i've worked on a few projects. These include a portrait and a landscape. For the portrait I made it a rough sketch at first to give it a rustic feel. And at first the portrait was in graphite and then I took a risk and used chalk pastels to give her color. I have never used chalk pastel but after getting a feel to the amount of pressure I need and the colors I need to use, I ended up really enjoying using them. By taking this risk I developed skill and created a very original piece that i’m very proud of.
For the next piece I decided to paint a landscape of an orange sunset with the silhouette of a hill and pine trees. To start this piece I painted the background orange. Then I made lighter and darker shades of oranges, yellows, and reds. With these other colors i used a paintbrush and painted quick strokes all across my canvas. By doing this it added dimension to the sky. When I painted the pine trees I made sure that they were translucent so that the orange would still be kind of visable to make my painting more realistic. My next problem was that the hill that the pine trees were on needed more dimension. To problem solve I added grey paint to give the hill dimension and make it appear more three dimensional.
